Cc: movable-parts@student.adelaide.edu.au Y-ellow micro. Unfortunately the TG33 is an entirely different beast. It is what Yamaha call Vector synthesis. As far as I am aware the TG33 is the only one of it's type that Yamaha make. The TG77 is and combo FM/PCM synth. It has the ability to use inbuilt PCM waveforms in place of any or all of the FM sine waves. It also has an extra 8 algorithms and a bunch of filters. All in all a very nice synth. Out of interest, Yamaha's current model specification numbers do nothing to make one immediately aware of the synthesis type. In face in the case of the SY85 it isn't synthesis at all. But rather a glorified ROM sample playback engine. As with the SY/TG55. About all you can immediately tell from the number is that it may be either a MODULE (TG=Tone Generator) or a KEYBOARD (SY=whothefuknose) Some modules don't have an equivalent keyboard such as the TG33, TG100 etc. Others are keyboards and don't have an equivalent MODULE such as the SY85. The numbering system means nothing. The SY/TG77 and SY99 are cool, all singing all dancing FM dooberies. Where as the SY85 that sits in the middle between them is a load of crap. Almost a precursor to a GM workstation. Usually found in sleazy piano bars or where ever 'easy listening' music is sold. In short you need to find someone with an actual TG33 who really needs this card. And although it's often crossed my mind to get one, Alas I don't. Therefore you're best course of action would be to SPAM usenet. Because lets face it. None of these boxes are even analogue. Hope that helps. (But I guess it's far from the outcome you wanted.) Would it be synthesis if it only had saw and square ROM samples? >But rather a glorified ROM sample playback engine. What isn't these days? Big corporate manufacturers like Roland and Yamaha are interested in developing one generic engine and selling it to different markets. >Others are keyboards and don't have an equivalent > MODULE such as the SY85. Um.. the TG500 is like 2 SY85s. The numbering system means nothing. The SY/TG77 and > SY99 are cool, all singing all dancing FM dooberies. Where as the SY85 that > sits in the middle between them is a load of crap. I think for a sample based synth, it's one of the better ones around. Something like an M1 is a monstrosity. I think Yamaha goofed with the following W5/7 series by removing the bank of sliders :( Almost a precursor to a > GM workstation. Each to their own... as long as I'm not subjected to it :) > In short you need to find someone with an actual TG33 who really needs this > card. Didn't someone reckon Jeff Mills used one? along with a QY20? None of these boxes are even analogue. Who cares? :) Giles (playing Devil's Advocate to liven up this list...)
