The PPG Wave 2.2 was 8 bit, the Wave 2.3 was 12 bit, and it seems that the Micro wave is either 16 bit, or higher sampling frequency 12 bit - it's WAY cleaner. Some like my associate Chick think that's good. I'm not so sure. Both the Wave 2.3 and uWave are 8 voice and 8 way Multitimbral, but the Wave 2.3 is monophonic in multi mode, while the uWave is Dynamically allocated. The Wave 2.3 has an 8 track sequencer, and an extremely trippy arpeggiator. The sequencer allowed you to overdub controller tracks, allowing you to change the filter and waves on each track as it played.... very flexible. The Tone generating architecture is extremely similar, with the uWave being more Midi-smart - implimenting a variety of Midi Controllers as well as Sysex. The Wave 2.3 only recieves performance data and some controllers over midi - it can't transmit or recieve patches or wave data. The Wave 2.3 when used with a waveterm could play back samples, treating them as "wavetable 31", and import wavetables. With version 2.0 of the uWave software, you can do the same thing... only again, it will be cleaner. Having worked with both, I'd say that the MicroWave is a truly HOT little board, BUT, its UI is only average. The Wave 2.3 is a truly huge and wonderful beast, but it is very unstable.... (both of mine are in the shop!). There you go! Actually - Wave 2.3 is Dynamicly allocated if you're playing a split of layered mulitimbre. It's mono if you assign each channel to a midi channel. Big difference. Obsessively yours Jim
