Yes, I'm starting to read Analogue Heaven again, despite the current wars o' flame. Sooooo anyone found me a Synthex yet? :) > I was also given the impression that you can't send patch changes over > the MD-8, but Kent's message seems to imply you can? The MD-8 supports patch change, but the Juno-60 does not interpret that information. The Jupiter-8 does. This feature can be enabled/disabled with the flick of a switch on the front panel. > One other person has told me he had problems with his MD-8 and Juno 60. > Occassional stuck notes, untriggered notes, etc. Others have told me > that they had no problems. Is the MD-8 known for problems, or is it the > nature of the DCB interface? I don't have any idea what's going on with the Jupiter-8/MD-8 problem mentioned before, but I think a lot of problems with the MD-8 interface have to do with the DCB cable. The cable itself is pretty rugged, but if you find one these days, it must be at least 10 years old. Cables wear out-- especially things that are thick and have lots of conductors like DCB. Another problem is that musicians tend to put more wear on cables than other cable-using dolts. If you have problems with your interface (stuck notes, etc), I suggest breaking out a multimeter and testing the cable. It's my understanding that the wiring is non-standard... so anyone have the conductor info? For those of you who are interested, here's the lowdown on the MD-8: Responds to all 16 MIDI channels Can do MIDI->DCB, DCB->MIDI, and MIDI<->DCB Has MIDI in, out, thru, and DCB (serves as in/out in one cable) Powers up in OMNI mode. This is a bit annoying unless you're using a multi-out MIDI interface, in which case you can just put it on its own MIDI out. You can put it in POLY mode by connecting a MIDI cable between the in and out, putting the thing in MIDI<->DCB mode, playing a key, then switching the MIDI channel. It'll remain in poly then until you turn it off. Many people just leave this thing on.
