From: Stefan Gruhl (CIP 92) Subject: real info: the RSF Expander Date: Fri, 27 Oct 1995 22:41:28 +0100 (MET) I did lately ask about this one and now I did see and gladly heard it. So get prepared for some real info again. no jokes, and no mails complaining about jokes. It is the RSF Expander 1. There must be a II model as well. Tom M. has one. It's a 4 U Rack. feartures 2 rows of BIG knobs and upper and lower of them a row of about as many jacks. In the middle there are afew switches, for e.g. switching LFO from triangle to square or synnc the 2nd osc. It features 1 LFO with rate knob and input and one attenuated and one normal (direct) out, normalled to the VCO's. there is and external in jack with in amp and attenuated output and inverted out. Good also for inverting signals while working just with the rsf (as I did). there is ()white?) noise as a jack. NJo to the SWEET part of it. 1) the OSC's I didn't believe any osc's could get me that fascinated again. I love my new SEM's for their FAT ones and the EMU for its super clear, precise ones. But this one's are just so different. The reason must be their VARIABLE !!!!!! Waveforms. Think as them as the variable lfo shape on the MS20. But here yyou may turn the knob linearly from triable over saw to square, to pulse. And this sweep cancels all kind of modulation that got me fascinated before (at least for today ;-) The first time I remember this was, when I did touch the filter cutof on a 101. the second time, a frequency coarse knob with a synced osc, then the filter sweep on a SEM form LP over notch to HP. And now this. And to set on top of it, this is controllable from external CV. 2) the filter is the SSM 2040 and sounds just as nice as this one does. A bit softer, warmer and sweeter than the pro5 one. But I didn't one one of both, so this is more like a quick impression. 3) the Env's and just ads and switchable release. I didn't manage to get them work. Gate input doesn't trigger any. I get some kind of reaction when I put the gate in into the Env's outs. Anybody knows about them. It's my friend one's and I am sorry I didn't get it. On the other hand, it's only a filter and 2 OSCs. nothing special else. and the moluar. factor is pretty low. Usually one input and one ouput, so you won't get the supreme addition to a modular. More like a ms20. (and a bit more limited even). hope that's been interesting, stefan -- * real electronic composers don't like their music be restricted * * to the physical limitations of the human hand - AH - a great list * * Stefan Gruhl * sngruhl@cip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de * * Monthly bonus sig: ************************************************ * "The course of true SOUND never did run smooth" * * freely taken from Midsummernights dream by Willy S. * ********************************************************************* *
