Are there any >MIDI retrofits for 2.2? The differences between the 2.2 and the 2.3 are the single outputs, illuminated display and the PPG Wave 2.3 on the back and front panel. So I have an updated PPG 2.2 and from the outside I have only the single outputs in common. Inside they changed the voiceboards from 8 to 12 bits and also the processor board with the wavetablereading is different because it is now possible to scan the whole memory like a sampler (the original 2.2 didn't do this!). The processor board with the cpus is equal, only they install a MIDI interface on mine! The illuminated Display makes a lot of noises so that a lot of people disconnect them (so no really advantage!). I think on the later models of the 2.3 they changed also the power supply, because of heat problems. I never recognized heat problems on mine, but Achim Lenzen (worked for PPG) told me. For me it is a good working synth, never had problems with mine! Price??? No idea, in Germany they go for arround 2500DM and up. Sometimes you can get one lower (like me! :) ) but that depends on the shape! I know there is a differnece in the number of oscillators, but >what about the waves? Are the internal waveforms the same? How bout the >sample rate? Data ports, etc? The 2 had as far as I know only one oscillator while the 2.2 and 2.3 had the second osc, too. I don't know about the internal waveforms and the sampling rate. I'm pretty sure that the 2 had no "data ports" and could NOT be used with a WaveTerm. I also think it is not MIDIable. >Also, how many Wave 2's are around? Were as many made of them as the 2.2s >or the 2.3's? Are the 2's harder to find? I think the number of 2s is smaller than the number of 2.2s and 2.3s and I have not seen one in real life yet. Also, while it was possible to upgrade a 2.2 to 2.3 it was not possible to upgrade a 2. The front panel was differently laid out. Ok, one for the gallery: CHANGES FROM WAVE 2.2 TO 2.3 outside: - iluminated display - individual single outputs (8) - on back and front panel now a 2.3 instead of the 2.2 :-) (the midi interface is also available for the 2.2 and you get a operating software V6 too) inside: - memory can read in once (the whole memory of two wavetables can be scanned for longer samples) - improve from 8 to 12 bit - multitimbral: - MIDI MonoMode - 7 split point (= 8 zones) with dynamic voice processing - multitimbral sequencer - suboscillator (2nd osc) can turned of for all voices - 30th Wavetable now loaded with two samples (sax and piano) the latest op software is Version 6 for both! The voice architecture didn't change: 2 Oscillators (Wavetable principle) 2 ADSR (one for VCA, the other for VCF +/or Wavetablescanning) 1 AD (for OSC pitch +/or WAVES for 2nd OSC) 1 LFO (for VCF, VCA, WAVES, PITCH (1st +/or 2nd OSC)) KEYBOARDTRACKING (for VCF, VCA, WAVES, PITCH (1st +/or 2nd OSC)) KTCK is positiv and negativ!!) Nice 8 Track (monophon) sequenzer with a lot of function for modulate the voice during the track (PITCH +/-, Waves, VCF CutOff, VCA) Nice Voiceassignments for splittings (in 2.2 mode). Also it was hardware upgradable from 2.2 to 2.3! With a Waveterm (A=8bit, B=16bit) it was possible to load samples in the wavetableRoms or do additive synthese to form new Wavetables). ...and, made in Germany. Cord
