OK, hold your breath... It's a 12-voice instrument. *Each* voice has the following independent features: 2 VCO's (sawtooth, square, triangle, noise [VCO2 only] waves) 1 VCF with 15 different modes (lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, phase shift, and combinations) 15 VCA's 5 DADSR envelope generators (first 'D' is 'Delay') with other nifty features 5 LFO's with ~6 preset shapes and user-definable shapes 4 ramp generators (the "Attack" portion of an envelope generator) 3 tracking generators (4-segment piecewise linear modulation) 1 lag processor (like portamento, but more general) FM Oscillator sync Keyboard responds to velocity, release velocity, and mono pressure. [Pressure is an option.] Mono output, stereo outputs, and 12 individual voice outputs [option] 2 user-assignable levers 2 user-assignable pedals The best synth user interface on the planet. :-) Now when I say "independent features," this means that every voice has (for example) 5 independent LFO's... meaning that the instrument has 5 x 12 = 60 LFO's that can all run independently. Trance, anyone? :-) Any of 27 modulation sources can modulate any of 47 modulation destinations. For example, LFO3 can modulate the speed of LFO2, which modulates the decay of envelope 4, which modulates the amount of FM applied when you pull a lever, etc.... Each patch can have 20 of these modulations. You can give each of the 12 voices the same or different sounds and combine them in numerous ways. >How is the sound compared to say a Matrix-1000 Thicker. :-) And the modulation is *much* more versatile. They are really not very similar instruments. >Xpander Virtually identical sound. An Xpander is approximately half of a Matrix-12 with no keyboard. >or a Memorymoog. Don't know. How many channels? It has 6 zones where you can route the voices. That means it is a kind of Multimode with "wired" voiceassign. Also every voice can have their own channel. Everything is possible >2- How do I get the CV/Gate option? Is it still available? I do not know anything about this. I doubt that you get the CV/Gate option somewhere! >3- Is there anything I should look for? Actually the deal is through mail, >so I won't be seeing the unit , I will be asking him. Ask the guy to switch it on, push the main page button and look if every voice is on (you should do this too if you receive the unit). Than he should go into the tune page and tune all. He should see pass under every tune parameter. If this is ok, the unit works so far. He should check every button and the 6 knobs. He also can check in the service page (main page/ second page/hit service/test leds) if every led works fine and in this page he also can check the fluorescent display. If this is all ok, it should be fine. >4- Is there different versions? and what are thier differences? The differences are in the aftertouch. I have a unit without aftertouch. It is worth $100 - $300 for people who are using this. However, you can play aftertouch from a masterkeyboard too (over Midi). Otherwise there are japanese matrix-12 with a vent inside. Don't go for these Matrixs, they have tuning problems. >5- What is the latest software version? The latest main software is 1.1, cassette software 1.0 and voice software 1.6 >Any other comments or advice will be appreciated. You cannot check too much if you don't see the unit. If it arrives test all the keys, buttons, knobs and the stuff I mentioned above. Than it should be fine. BTW, wait to heat up the unit. My arrived in the winter and it was fucking cold. It took over 4h till the filter passed the tuning test. Never had problems with this again, but give it alittle time to heat up. I bothered the seller because of this problem and I really regreted it! Cord
