Synth: Realistic (Moog) MG-1 Review by: Damien Miller Summary: Excellent value, decent sound, limited capability. Years Made: ??? Polyphony: The main synth engine is monophonic, but there is a polyphonic section which (I think) is one osc per key (2 octaves) Multitimbrality: You kidding? MIDI: no Other external control: CV/Gate: 1 v/oct standard CV, Trigger is *S-Trig* Clock: Other CV: Audio input: yes, but alas it does not go thru the filter. Proprietary (DCB, etc): Programmer: Patch storage: Patch dumping (tape, MIDI, etc): Voice architecture: 2 * VCO square and saw waves only (w/ sync) Polyphonic section (1 osc/key) sounds like a triangle wave. 1 x White Noise Generator 1 x Ring Mod (actually an XOR from the pulse waves) 1 x AR envelope generator (with switchable sustain) 1 x VCF (50%, 100% keyboard tracking, env amt) 1 x LFO (square, tri, s+h) can be used to trigger the envelope 1 x Mixer 1 x VCA (switchable between envelope/gate/continuous) Sequencer/Arpeggiator: no Keyboard/rack: 2 oct keyboard Known problems: Accessories: Related synths/gear: Moog Rogue (??) Price range: In Australia: $100AUD to $250AUD Availability: Check the pawn shops Comments: Strengths: Nice filter, 1 slider per function, small, cheap. Weaknesses: F***ing ugly (styling by Realistic). While the VCOs can be sync'd, there is no way to independantly modulate one. Limited envelope. Overall: I would buy another, given the chance.
