Can anyone describe what the > differences are between the various models of wavestations? here's the various models, in approximate chronological order: original wavestation -- a keyboard model wavestation EX or EX upgrade for original -- still a keyboard, added more waveforms to the original, for a total of around 500. after this upgrade no additional changes were ever made to the waveform set or, i believe, the available effects. seem to go for around $880-$1000 used. wavestation A/D -- pretty much the most popular model. a rack version of the EX, still with the pretty nice programming interface (big screen, soft keys, big data wheel, etc). the A/D also has an extra RAM bank (i believe) and has external audio inputs (analog) which can just be passed through the internal effects (useful) OR can be used as extra waveforms (weird and interesting). seem to go for around $1200 used. all three of these models featured slots for both RAM cards (room for extra program data) and PCM cards. these models are discontinued, as are the PCM cards. wavestation SR -- sort of a rackmount EX updated for the market of people who never program anyway. it's a 1U rackmount with a tiny screen and minimal knobs -- a programming nightmare. it's got, i believe, the three RAM banks of the A/D, but features about 8 ROM banks (compared to the previous models' 1). the SR also uses a different PCM format, compatible with korg's other offerings (01/W and stuff i think). i dont know if the RAM card format has changed. i dont know what these go for used, but they're still in production and seem to go for about $800 new, though one place was blowing them out at $400 NEW last year. some recent discussion of the MS-20 over on analogue heaven was making me think: it's kinda of neat that the same company that produced the weird screwy and fun MS-20 also produced the weird screwy and fun wavestation. especially the A/D. :) m ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Murphy's Discovery: Do you know Presidents talk to the country the way men talk to women?
