Thanx, It went something like this, (this version is one that I had written up many moons ago from notes of a coversation I had with the tech mentioned at the bottom of the file): *** start of K5m output mods So.... for all of you that have K5's or K5m's and wanna do this "lower noise" mod... Here's the scoop: 1) Overall, the mod is raising the level of each of the outputs farther above the noise floor of the machine. What you'll see is that the outputs will become fairly hot in comparison to what they are now. 2) Open the box up, (either the keyboard or the module). You're looking for circuit board MI004. It should be the one on top, right in front of you. 3) Things are tight in there, but you're looking for resistors R26, R27, R28, R29 and R19. These are the feedback resistors for the final output amps. You will be increasing their value. There's one resistor for each of the outputs, (1-4 and Mix). 4) Presently, the resistors are all 56k, you want to replace them with 147k values. This will increase the gain of the finals section by a factor of about 2.5, (life ain't linear). 5) Those small little parts that you're looking at are 1/8 watt resistors, Radio Shack doesn't sell 'em... You can use 1/4 watt parts but you'll have to stand 'em on end. 6) That's about it... Close it all back up and go nuts. Another tidbit... You know the display that we all know and love, (yeah right), on the module? It's the same display that's on the keyboard, and that's the source of the problem. The words outta the techs mouth were "Yeah, they screwed that up, they should used a (insert random letters and numbers here), but they woulda' had to change the driver". The bottom line is that the display that you see is the only one that Kawai ever put in the box. The only answer is to change the viewing angle by tilting it in the rack, (my option), or to place it higher in the rack so that you can see it dead on. The tech said that there's nothing that you can do to make it better. Messing with the contrast circuity or the backlight will probably only make things worse. And, for your notebooks...
