I just recieved my 909 from David Talento this afternoon in a smooth deal(good trader alert). Here are my initial impressions regarding the 909 vs the 09. The 909 is an incredible instrument. I have been using 909 samples for quite some time but it is an ENTIRELY different story using a 909. The knobs and sequencer really do make all the difference. So as far as the 909 goes I am going to put forward the notion that it is a beat generating monster. On the other hand I would classify the JOMOX as more of a musical machine than the 909. Whilst the 909 makes it simple to make wonderful sounding beatz the JOMOX adds the dimension of melody to the equation. The programming interface is not as immediate as the 909 IMHO but the sonic capabilites go far beyond the 909, hence the extra programming effort. Imagine having 16 stripped 909s with only a kick, snare, and hats/clap and being able to tweak each of those sounds independently for each step. After playing with the 909 I can see why some people may be bummed with regards to the JOMOXs 3 note polyphony. It is great to have access to all the sounds simultaneously with the 909...hence the complex beat aspect. The JOMOX whilst not enabling you to create sick beatz through the shear amount of percussive voices (as the 909), it does open up a parallel realm of creating sick beatz through the use of melody and texture. Of course in an ideal world you would just have both ;o). My 2 less than coherent cents. -toph
