You wouldn't want to pay more than $100 or so for the CS-5 (not "CS-05"). There's nothing in the manual that indicates there's a compatible drum machine, so this may just be something thrown in to sweeten the deal. Yes it has CV/gate, but the cv is of the Hz/volt kind, which is not what the rest of the world uses Except for some old Korg gear that uses this method, most other synths you're familiar with use volt/octave scaling. The good news is that Kenton makes a Hz/volt option of you buy one of their cv/midi converters. The architecture is pretty basic. You get: 1 VCO (with seperate feeds for square and saw, with volume levels for both) noise generator external input with trigger level to start ADSR 1 ADSR that controls both the VCA and VCF (*NO* gate option for the VCA, which means all your envelope settings will affect the VCA as well) making up for that fact is the filter, which is switchable between lopass, bandpass and hipass, and each is resonant and sweepable. Excellent and unique sound. filter cutoff resonance amount (won't self-oscillate) 1 LFO VCA has 'initial level amount' like some ARP's, so that you can have it never shut off if you want (for external inputs, etc) 3 octave keyboard And that should do it. Nice sound, but it's limited and you have to spend money on a cv option, so don't pay too much. Maybe you should hold out for a CS-15...that's what I'm looking for. It's the next step up.
