Do you mean the actual rack version of the MiniMoog or their own cration, the SE-1? The racked MINIMoog (called at first the MIDIMoog and later the MIDIMini) is basically a real minimoog with a few added mods: OSC syncing, a 4th osc to serve as an LFO only, great MIDI implementation, etc. To me, it sounds exactly the same. I watched them rack my own mini in this way. At first, you could trade in your mini and they'd just pull the components and rack it. Later, you could buy them whole. Their SE-1, from what I understand, is a modern copy of the Mini's circuits. In addition to the avoce features, S.E. added patch memory, a large display, a miltimode filter, and perhaps pulse-width modulation (I'm not sure). They're always improving the SE-1 with software upgrades (it really is, though, a true analog unit). As to whether it saounds exactly the same, people differ in their opinions. Regardless, many claim that the added features outweight and difference in sound. Like anything, let YOUR ears be the judge! Regardless, my dealings with SE have been pleasant, and they're good guys. Good Luck! Marc Crandall
