I know quite a bit about Sequential gear as I own a lot. If you want historyt serial information rev info software info I can list a good proportion of it but it will take a bit of time and a long post . I am down for providing this information seeing as I have dealt wiith wine country myself and don't appreciate their policies.SO M if you want me to I will start working on it by the way the latest software for the P 10 is 6-1 and the Prophet 5 is 10-5 the P6oo is .08 the Drumtraks is 04 and 05 the T8 is 3.8 the Prophet 2000 is 4.2 some of this stuff you can get from wes taggert for cheaper than wine country like Prophet 5 midi kits I will not list preices because this is not an endorsement of analogics it is just a statement of fact.I will divulge more info at a latter date but this psot is already getting to long Dave out >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>Page 10 Roland MSQ700 owners maual >>>> <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> From DPRO5@aol.comTue Aug 15 11:40:49 1995 Date: Wed, 19 Jul 1995 04:30:45 -0400 From: DPRO5@aol.com To: analogue@hyperreal.com Subject: More Sequential FAQs ok next installment ofr all you who have ever wondered when they switched from rev 1and 2 P5s to rev 3 anything after 1301 serial number is a rev 3 by the way rev 3 had 40 programs rev 3.1 had 80 and rev 3.2 had 120 you can factory midi a 3.1 and up but a rev three needs the kenton kit which actually has more features than the factory kit . Early Pro 1 s had the power supply mounted on the main circiut board ie; not good if your giging because it can break the circuit board later ones had it mounted on the chassis most Pro 1s had J wires but towards the end of the manufacturing run they cheaped and put in a menbrane contact on the keyboard . This is warning when buying Pro 1s see what serial number it is some do have the manufacturing date so look for that to ! The Prophet 600 is not like the P5 it uses different filter chips cem 3372 and a diferrent amp cem 3360 there are major architecture differences to don't get me wrong the P600 has its own sound and its cool but different . The T8 is not a bigger Prophet 5 either it is actually a larger ^600 it uses the same filter and amp chips as the 600 thought its front panel layout is identical to the P5 look at as what the 600 should have been but the company wanted to keep costs down on the 600 and were actually exploring new architecture and yes the 600 was the FIRST MIDI synth !!! And last but not least before I end this Installment the P5 re 3 and up used 3320 filter 3340 vco and 3280 anp and a DAC 71 Peaceout DAVE L. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>our minds are on the verge of >>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ...............DPRO5@aol.com.................................................. ................................. Not true. Revs 3-3.2 had 40 programs, unless modded w/ the JL Cooper kit (though the 3.3 SM tells you how to do the mod). 3.3 had 120 This is all detailed in the Service Manual. I typed it up & sent it to the list about a year ago; the information was a bit more complete. I'll see if I can't find the archive... > you can > factory midi a 3.1 and up but a rev three needs the kenton kit which actually > has more features than the factory kit . Revs 1 & 2 require a Kenton kit - which Whine Country will supply at a MUCH higher price than Kenton (Or Richard Marshall) > Early Pro 1 s had the power supply > mounted on the main circiut board ie; not good if your giging because it can > break the circuit board later ones had it mounted on the chassis most Pro 1s > had J wires but towards the end of the manufacturing run they cheaped and put > in a menbrane contact on the keyboard . This is warning when buying Pro 1s > see what serial number it is some do have the manufacturing date so look for > that to ! I've put two Pro-Ones together & programmed the same settings, only to find that they sounded VERY different. One had silver P5 style knobs, the other black P600 knobs. Does anyone know what sort of changees were made to the Pro-One? >The Prophet 600 is not like the P5 it uses different filter chips > cem 3372 and a diferrent amp cem 3360 there are major architecture > differences to don't get me wrong the P600 has its own sound and its cool but > different . Having owned both, I can tell you it's possible to make them sound damn near identical...but the P5 can make sounds the P600 never will. I 'll also point out that the P600 has software generated envelopes, which have a bug in the code which can delay the attack whan a long release setting is used (a lot like a Peavey SP sampler in this respect, actually) >The T8 is not a bigger Prophet 5 either it is actually a larger > ^600 it uses the same filter and amp chips as the 600 thought its front panel > layout is identical to the P5 look at as what the 600 should have been but > the company wanted to keep costs down on the 600 and were actually exploring > new architecture and yes the 600 was the FIRST MIDI synth !!! Well you know a lot of anecdotal stuff thrown together in run on sentences does not make a FAQ. The data needs to be organized and more importantly VERIFIED FOR ACCURACY to have any worth at all. Don't get me wong, I'm not flaming - it's better to throw shit out and find out the truth than to not contribute anything at all. If you're not sure about somethng though, it's better if you qualify w/ phrases such as "I think I read that..." or "Is it true that..." than coming across like you're an expert. Oh, and thanks for teaching me about the power supply thing... 808OUT "I bet there's an alternate reality where you can get a Jupiter 8 with a built in Space Echo" - void@slip.net From DPRO5@aol.comTue Aug 15 11:41:21 1995 Date: Mon, 24 Jul 1995 18:49:58 -0400 From: DPRO5@aol.com To: analogue@hyperreal.com Cc: mr808@teleport.com Subject: Re: More Sequential FAQs correction In response to my post MR808 wrote........... Not true revs 3-3.1 had 40 programs revs 3.2-3.3 could have 120 programs . I stand corrected in some little areas but you Mr808 are wrong in areas to . I would have posted this earlier but I wanted to check . By the way Mr808 my source of most my information comes from the former head of production at Sequential Mike Tringali . He happens to be my service tech for my gear ! The reason I did not post about the fact that rev 1and 2 s needed kenton kits is because most people desire rev 3 and up. Though there are some people who prefer the rev 2 sound and some who hate it . Mr808 says Having owned both, I can tell you it's possible to make them sound damn near identical...but the P5 can make sounds the P600 never will. I own both to and the 600 does not sound identical maybe you should have your ears checked . By the way capping on my penmanship is not very constructive. Some times in the course of typing these things we forget periods and commas . Anyways don't take this as a flame 808 its just a reply. Plus I think you've tried to come across as an authority on more than one ocassion not saying that you aren't mind you but then again I'm humble enough to accept being corrected when the correction is right .! From the SCI Prophet 5 Technical Manual (Rev 3): SECTION 11 - "This section contains instructions for converting Rev 3.0 or 3.1 Prophets to Rev 3.2" Inspection of the parts list indicates no Static Ram Chips... The parts list includes a 6116 Static Ram Chip... >I would have posted this earlier but I wanted to check . I think you'd better check again...ask your service tech to check those sections of the repair manual. >By the way Mr808 my source of most my information comes from the former head >of production at Sequential Mike Tringali . My experience w/ guys like that have been in the business for a long time is that their memory sometimes glitches the small details. I've heard some whacked out tales from service techs which later proved to be totally bogus. A really good example of this is in "Vintage Synthesizers", where Philip Dodds, former head of Arp Synthesizers, says "The heart of the Chroma was an Intel 80186". Oops! The Chroma uses a 6809 - it's the Polaris that has an 80186. Anecdotal evidence should always be taken w/ a grain of salt. >He happens to be my service tech for my gear ! Aren't you special! >I stand corrected in some little areas but you Mr808 are wrong in >areas to . You wrote "areas", as plural? Is this intentional, or just another careless typo or spelling error? It's hard to read the signal for all the noise. Of course, this is really a VERY small matter, is Rev 3.2 40 or 120 programs? I know damn well I'm right, because I owned a Rev 3.2 P5 for over 5 years, and I poked around in it numerous times, and I know what I saw Digital Connector on the outside, no 6116 on the inside, just like the docs said a 3.2 was supposed to be. As far as I'm concerned, the SCI Service Docs are the final authority. If I HAD made a mistake, I'd be happy to admit it, but I haven't, so don your flameproof suit. 808OUT "I bet there's an alternate reality where you can get a Jupiter 8 with a built in Space Echo" - void@slip.net "Kids these days...you try dropping some knowledge on 'em, and they come back w/ some crackheadbullshit & try to flame yo ass" - MR-808
