*** This file SUPERCEDES and replaces ASRMOD01.TXT *** SIMPLE FATMAN ASR MOD chordman@flash.net ADDS VELOCITY CONTROLLED ASR GAIN. This mod adds a new feature to the ASR control of the VCF. With the switch closed and the pot turned to max resistance, the FatMan operates unmodified. With the switch in the open position, the transistor acts as a crude voltage controlled gain control, driven by the velocity control voltage. The effect is most when the 2 meg pot is at minimum resistance. Velocity now effects the gain of the ASR output stage. As you play harder, the attack-decay pulse gets larger. This is unlike the supplied velocity control which changes a DC bias to the summing node. It's a little thumpy when the frequency control is most of the way down, however, even *that* is useful. The thumpyness goes away rapidly as the frequency or FatMan velocity control is turned up. The method I used was to just solder the transistor right to the ASR out pot. You can make a little board if you like, but this method took me less than 5 minutes to set up and test it. All that is needed beyond that is to drill holes and mount the parts. You can stick the switch and pot in a little plastic box if you have no panel space. Parts: 1 transistor, NPN small signal. I used 2N3904 1 2 meg pot 1 spst switch a small amount of wire Here's how: Remove wire S from ASR out pot (R115) Solder transisitor emitter to R115 where wire S was Solder wire S to transistor collector wire the center lug of 2 meg pot to transistor base wire the clockwise lug of 2 meg pot to wire AJ The other lug of the 2 meg pot is open Wire on side of the switch to the emitter wire the other side of the switch to the collector.
