Agreed, Pedal 1 is a continuos rocker pedal, Pedal 2 is a switch that can be useed as an external trigger input, using "a "trigger pulse"" from a drum machine to "time the Envelopes and LFOs." [the manual] Next, manual p. 51, trigger source DC pulse of at least 20 ms in width and +1 to +10 volts amplitude (run of the mill trigger). Just plug in using a regular guitar cable. Great, you've already done that and you know your machine is sending a trigger out (probably). Next you need to decide where you want that trgger connected. In the patch edit of whatever sound you are going to use this trigger with you have the choice of using your drum machine to trigger: Envelope 1 (57), env2 (67), env3 (77), LFO1 (86), lfo2 (96). For the lfo's the parameter value choices are OFF, Strig, Mtrig, Xtrig. [x=external pedal2, the s= single keyboard trigger, m=multiple keyboard triggers] For the envelopes you have more choices, depending whether you want the envelopes to complete their firing (strig) before paying attention to a trigger, or always retrigger (Mtrig), sreset (retriggers but at whatever level it is currently at, not the start of the cycle, I think, confusing without hands on) and Mreset which always goes back to the start of the envelope. The parameter values for pedal2 are the same as for a keyboard, except they have an x in front of them XTRIG,XMTRIG,XRESET,XMRSET, and you can us the arrows to see them all at each location/envelope (57,67,77) So, your probelm is that you have not edited the patches to bring the voltage into what I consider a modular synth (designed in a shoebox). >Does anyone have any > practical uses for this that they can tell me about? I don't use this feature (yet) but my advice is you want to build some sounds to expand your 909 palette, like the space drum from hell effect, or perhaps one of the ramp sounds that echo, or give a chordal effect. For starters use patch 40, whoosh, or 98 fireball, because they have no distinct pitch and wont be out of tune. Then you can work into some pitched triggering, but you will have to tune your drums to the matrix. (well, you don't have to, but...) There are some real interesting long sequences you can build inside a matrix patch and you can go way past the space drum approach, and if you are into rave, well your going to be busy but happy, X-static, pardon the pun. lorne
