More specifically, how well does the MM keep up = with >>dense controller streams (poor Zilog)? >There is a guy on the list (well, he was...) that had it done, who = swears >by it. Says it makes it a new machine and is worth every penny (for = those >that love it). That was me. Below is a partial re-print. I've had it now for some time. = I still think it was a tad expensive, but I could never go back to a = stock unit. It handles the thickest MIDI streams like nothing, and is now = capable of sounds that nothing else is, even the most modded modular, = because you can sequence and address over 80 controllers at once. I use = it more than all my other gear combined. "Its back! It took nearly three months to get it back from NC, I guess = they just hired a new tech to do these mods, and in the transition my board = just sat. It sounds as sweet, eerie, nasty, rich, wicked, and FAT as I remember. None = of the upgraded circuitry had the nasty side-effect of changing the original = sound quality, it simply kicks ASS! And now, with the ability to send, record, and edit every function of the board as continuous controller data, you = can achieve the most mind twisting textures I'd ever though possible. Granted, this may be a biased review. The MM was my favorite synth before it was modded, even with its lousy MIDI implementation and overheating problems [solution - just don't leave it on for more than 45 min...] I've now had it back for three days and HAVEN'T TURNED IT OFF! It plays flawlessly, of course. AND I'M SHOUTING BECAUSE I'M JACKED!!! I've = dreamed about having this kind of controll and reliability with what I've always considered the mother of all synths. Its just way too cool. Now, as soon as I have that manual I can tell you about how it sends and revieves MIDI dumps of presets, how you can sync the arpegiator to MIDI clock, the neato new service routines, etc., etc. I have discovered a = cool new couple of arpeg. modes that do a funky little ascending and = descending arpeg. things - neato little patterns depending on how many notes are sustained. More later.... Bottom line though. It cost more to have it modded that I paid for the synth. I could have bought a lot of other things with the same money = (two 303's if I was lucky...mmmm, no maybe just one with the carrying case) = but I have no regrets. If you're entertaining the thought, I'd do it. e-me if you're serious and have questions. Bob's not paying me to say this, and I do think that the price is steep, but no one else does it so what choice = is there? Cheers! - Joel"
