Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 14:56:50 PST From: umair haque To: analogue@hyperreal.org Subject: [AH] fizmo review bottom line: this keyboard blows!! it looks terrible; if the jp 8000 is a synth babe, the fizmo is like the marge simpson of keys. they used the same color scheme that la gear did in the 80's (hey...remember those shoes that lit up?). and it sounds as bad as it looks. it can do that dirty transwave thing that the esq-1 etc can do. but that's about it!!! turning the f.i.z.m.o. knobs does nothing revolutionary to the sound. sounds just like filter adjustment and mod routing intensity. and i mean really basic stuff--like adjusting cutoff on a standard 4-pole filter, or increasing the amt of pitch mod. it makes a lot of burbly gargly sounds, due to the arpeggiator and the transwaves...but the sound is so much thinner than an esq-1 that they sound *really bad*. i have nothing good to say about this keyboard. it sounds retarded. it's like if ensoniq made an mc303--but put in bad transwaves, an arpeggiator and thin filters instead. and it looks like they hired those la gear dudes to design it. go demo it for laughs. sorry about the shortness of the review, i'm just too hungry to write more. if you wanna more, just drop me a line. umair ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
