The SH-09 is very close in design, basically an SH-1 with a few features trimmed out. Following are on SH-1: LFO: Random, Square, or Sine Wave, Rate and Delay VCO: 32'to2', Saw, Square or Variable Pulse (manual, LFO, or EG). Modulation from LFO, Auto bend time and depth Sub Oscillator: Square 1 Oct down, OR: Square or Short Pulse 2 Oct down Mix: VCO, Sub, Noise, External Noise: White or Pink HPF: Cuttoff Frequency VCF: Cutoff, Resonace, Env1 (selectable polarity), Mod, Kybrd, Envelope Follower amount from external input VCA: Hold level, EG 1 or 2 select EG1: ADSR, with select for Gate, Gate+Trigger, or LFO EG2: AR, with select for Gate or LFO Rear Panel (Visible Facing Upwards) Output, Phones Out, Audio Input, (all with H/M/L level select) CV/Gate Inputs and Outputs. 2 1/2 Octave keyboard, Pitch Bender, Volume, Portamento speed, Tuning Transpose L/M/H, Select Kybrd or external CV/Gate. Audio Input triggers EG I saw an SH-1 in a store once (1979?). I don't think it was on the market very long before being replaced by the SH-2 (2 VCO) and the SH-09. The SH-1 is on the back of an old Roland Catalog Volume 2. There is a photo and endorsement from "Go Die Go". Other endorsing artists on the same page (endorsing various other models) are Mike Rutherford, Stylus, Joachim Kuhn Band, Don Lewis, and Pepe Leinhard Band. "We Heartily Endorse Roland". Sounds 95% like a SH101 to me, though I was on unfamiliar amplification. I think there was a switch for the kind of noise (pink or white) and there was that weird key-gate-following function that was a sort of elaborate portamento, though I don't know if this was in earlier/later SH series synths. I can totally see how they took the SH-1 guts and built the cheaper/flimsier SH-101 box and added the sequencer. Otherwise the CV's and output and stuff was the same and the envelope generator felt *exactly* the same, and all the pulse width mod stuff was there. Oh, the wave could be one multiple higher and one lower (five settings) like 32' and 2' I think it was. Sturdy plastic thing. David Chandler - chandler@nethost.multnomah.lib.or.us (503)301-3011
