It's a guitar EFX box by Roland, but I don't know the year it was made. The effect name is "Funny Cat". It has two halves- a soft distortion, and a 'harmonic mover'. This had been sitting in a pawn shop for a year at least, and I figured I'd go pay the rediculous price just so I could say I had it. Turns out to be the best envelope follower I've ever heard. It has 3 settings, each giving the envelope a bit more strength, therefore opening up the filter more. The top setting is CRAZY! Beyond just filtering, it tweaks things, almost sounding out of tune. The inside is a main board, with 3 hybrid boards connected to it. It's ALL discrete components! The distortion _is_ soft, but more of the kind of distortion that you get if a radio station isn't quite tuned in. Very cool box, all in a nice, brushed aluminum case, and those old Roland graphics. I'd like to know if anyone else has one, and when it was made. I'm thinking of photocopying the board traces, and building more. I've done this before, and it works great! Just take the touched up photocopy to a service bureau, and have them shoot a film positive, and go home and etch the board(s). These would be great filters even without the env follower, just replace with a CV. Anyway, any history would be great..
