If not, does it have an internal sequencer, via midi clock? No internal sequencer on my unit. >3. Is it completely or just partly analogue? I believe it is partially analogue. The snare sound has a choice of 'samples' as its called on the knob. Someone who had a manual for this instrument said that the manual mentioned some of the instrument was digital. It sounds very analogue to me, and the filters have to be analogue... I took one of the SDS200 apart and it had CEM chips inside. The 1000 and the 200 sound very much alike, so I assume the same for the 1000. >4. Is it worth talking him out of it (he's not an analogue junkie) and >picking it up myself? :) He's mainly doing swingbeat and mostly uses a sampler. Its a very cool sounding machine, classic cheesy-80s synthdrum sounds. I ended it up selling one for a friend for $75.00.. I wish I could have kept it for myself. Quick, unrelated question: Does anyone know if the JD800 has an arpeggiator? +=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ | Derek Jeter djeter@utk.edu | | http://aztec.lib.utk.edu/~jeter | +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+ From map@cs.washington.eduTue Dec 5 11:46:47 1995 Date: Tue, 5 Dec 1995 11:19:12 -0800 (PST) From: Mike Perkowitz To: analogue heaven Subject: Re: SIMMONS SDS1000 > Does anybody know what this beast is (yes, I know it's a drum module, but what > sounds, programmability does it have?) simmons analogue/digital drum sound module. it has a bass drum and snare drum which are both (i think.. snare definitely) based on samples and three analogue toms. on the toms you can tweak pitch, filter cutoff, bend up/down, noise amount, "click", and "second skin". the snare lets you switch between four samples and fiddle with the pitch and bend. the bass drum doesnt do much. it's got trigger ins and individual outs as well as a mix out pair. you can also trigger the sounds with midi, but i believe it's omni only. the thing is in a single rack space. dedicated knobs for trigger sensitivity and level for each sound. editing is done with about 5 multi-function knobs. 5 presets and 5 user storage locations. m ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Females often control a mating situation, but none more than the female praying mantis. A brown male approaches her with extreme caution. She's a ferocious predator, and mating with her is dangerous. But for the male praying mantis, he has no choice. His mission is complicated by two conflicting nerve centers. The one in his head tells him he's in danger, while the one in his abdomen propels him toward sex. The hungry female devours his head, freeing him of his brain and his inhibitions. He's lost his head, and abandons himself to sex. -- from "The Nature of Sex" on PBS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- map@cs.washington.edu http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/map/ mike perkowitz http://www.hyperreal.com/machines/
