From analogue-owner@hyperreal.org Mon Jan 1 00:00:00 1969 From: analogue-owner@hyperreal.org To: Analogue Heaven Subject: AH Info Posting AH is run by the EZMLM mailing list management system (not majordomo). contact analogue-help(at)hyperreal.org for help. If you have difficulties with the list (posting, un/subscribing, etc), contact analogue-owner(at)hyperreal.org. Please do not post a "test" message to the list. It will accomplish nothing but pissing off the admins and everyone else. The list very rarely goes down without prior warning; if you're having problems, it's probably on your end. Sometimes mail bounces and ezmlm or the admins have to unsub someone; if you seem to get unsubbed, just rejoin. It's expected that members are familiar with the posting guidelines. Those violating them may be unsubscribed or post-limited. The list admins or deputies may give you a gentle reminder if you violate the guidelines. please respect them. if you disagree with the guidelines or have a problem with the list or admins, please contact any of the following. admins: mike perkowitz (tint(at)hyperreal.org) deputies: david evans (dfevans(at)bbcr.uwaterloo.ca) paul perry (pfperry(at)melbpc.org.au) mark pulver (mark(at)midiwall.com) matthew davidson (matthew(at)blank.org) AOL USERS: for whatever reason, AOL often loses list mail. If you have AOL, we recommend that you get a free email account (yahoo, hotmail, etc) or a new ISP if you want to join the list. Think that sucks? complain to AOL! YAHOO USERS: yahoo's mail policies break the list, so yahoo addresses are barred from posting, though they may subscribe. You may want to use an alternate address. to post: mailto:analogue(at)hyperreal.org to join: mailto:analogue-subscribe(at)hyperreal.org Where to get more information: AH web page: http://ah.hyperreal.org/ AH archives: http://www.retrosynth.com/ah/ http://elists.resynthesize.com/analogue-heaven/ AH FAQ: http://code404.com/faq/ Music Machines: http://machines.hyperreal.org/ Manual Manor: http://www.markglinsky.com/ManualManor.html Digital Hell: mailto:digitalhell-help@hyperreal.org Polysynth: http://www.egroups.com/group/polysynth AnalogueEbay: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/analogue_alerts/ AH Off-Topic: http://lists.fdiskc.com/listinfo.cgi/ahot-fdiskc.com Unsubscribe: mailto:analogue-unsubscribe(at)hyperreal.org Problems: mailto:tint(at)hyperreal.org Digital Hell is for topics relating to digital music synthesis. Polysynth is about 80s analog polysynths. Topics that are more appropriate for other lists shouldn't be cross-posted to AH. ezmlm may block crossposted messages. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Please read the following guidelines for posts to analogue heaven. Members are expected to follow them. Please use a short and descriptive subject line to help other members decide what to read or delete. ANALOGUE HEAVEN is devoted to the discussion of analogue synths and analogue synthesis, and vintage analogue components. Only topics directly relating to these topics should be brought up. Acceptable topics: - Analogue synthesizers (e.g. Moog, Arp, modulars, BassStation, etc) - "hybrid" synthesizers that are partly analogue (e.g. Juno-106, ESQ-1, microwave, spectrum synth) - Gear with analogue components (e.g. samplers with analogue filters: Emax, Prophet-2000) - Analogue effects (e.g. Space Echo, Small Stone) - Analogue sequencers (e.g. ARP sequencer, SQ-10) - Analogue components (e.g. VCO and VCF chips, tubes) - Do-it-yourself circuits and modifications - The use of analogue/vintage equipment in recorded music - Analogue-styled gear (e.g. MAQ 16/3, JD-800) - Analogue-style computer software (e.g. the virtual 909, VAZ) - Digital synths that "emulate" analogue and how close they come (e.g. Nord Lead, Access Virus) - Useful accessories for analogue (e.g. MIDI-CV convertors) - Good/Bad Trader posts. Put "[TRADER]" and the person's name/email in the subject. - Announcement of analogue-related events. Put the city in the subject. Unacceptable topics: - No digital synths, even "classic" ones like the DX-7 and Synergy - No reviews of music or comparisons of musical genres - No "test" messages - No general computer music software topics - No virus warnings, petitions, or chain letters - No binary attachments (eg, images, soundfiles). put them on the web (or contact tint(at)hyperreal.org about music machines) and post the URL. - Anything about Ebay beyond a single post if you are the seller (include [ebay] and "FA" in the subject) or an "ebay scam alert" about AH-related items (one post, no followups) The following will not make it to the list: - Posts in HTML format - Posts by non-members (including members posting from a different address; EZMLM doesn't know the difference) - Apparent test messages - Posts with large binary attachments Members of Analogue Heaven who consistently violate these guidelines will be asked politely to desist and given a copy of these rules. If they persist, they will be removed from the list. Members should PRIVATELY inform new members when they stray. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- What flamewars do occur on the list often erupt over people who have commercial interests and feel a need to defend their reputations, etc. We think these people are of value to the list. However, we want to make it clear the following are list no-nos: 1. carrying on a flamewar 2. habitually posting off-topic 3. being a producer/seller and dissing other producer/sellers (even veiled references) 4. picking fights, especially dogging specific people/companies we do recognize the "right of one response". if someone is dissing you on the list, rest assured they'll get nailed for it. you have the right to respond to their comments, ONCE, so make it good. beyond that (or if it gets personal), it's considering flamewarring. people who break these rules will be post-limited (limited to one post per day) for a day, a week, or indefinitely. complaining about people violating on the list guidelines, while well-intentioned, is not usually very effective. a better response would be to reply to the poster privately and complain to the deputies. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This document is posted weekly to Analogue Heaven (Monday mornings). It was written by mike perkowitz and rob williams. If you have questions, contact analogue-owner(at)hyperreal.org.
