Any favorite patch bay configurations? >Sure! Here`s a patch with an oboe-like sound: Naturally I forgot to include some important parameters! Here comes the complete and correct version: ------------------------------------ |Name: MiKaEl'S SyNtHeTiC oBoE | | | ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------- | VCO1: | VCO2: |Highpass filter: |Lowpass Filter: | | | | | | | Waveform : square | Waveform: square |Cutoff : 5.5 |Cutoff : 6.4 | | Pulsewidth: 5.9 | Pitch : +3.9 |Peak : 5.5 |Peak : 5 | | Octave : 8' | Octave : 4' |MG/T.EXT: 0 |MG/T.EXT: 0 | | | |EG2/EXT : 0 |EG2/EXT : 0 | ----------------------------------------- ------------------ ---------------- | Portamento: 0 | VCO level 1: 10 |Frequency mod: MG/T.EXT: 0.6 | | Mastertune: - | VCO level 2: 7.5 | EG1/EXT : 1.2 | ----------------------- --------------------------- ------------------------- |Mod. generator: |Envelope generator 1: |Envelope generator 2:| | | | | |Waveform: 5 |Delay : 1.1 |Hold : 0 | |(Pot points right up) |Attack : 3.4 |Attack : 0 | | |Release : 0 |Decay : 7.6 | ----------------------- ---------------------------|Sustain : 0 | |Release : 4 | --------------------- Patching: - MG triangle (left output) is patched to VCA input. - VCA output is patched to FREQ (2nd jack at top row). - EG1 out is patched to VCA control input (3rd jack at 3rd row). (This is a normal delayed vibrato patching.) REMARK: Most important is that the pitch control of VCO2 is adjusted so that the distortion is minimized. The harmonics of VCO2 and VCO1 interfere and cause some phaseshift effect which should be reduced by adjusting this control just a little bit. The settings of HP-peak and LP-peak are also critical. They should be adjusted so that the filters are very close to (but not) self-oscillation. / Mikael Hillborg, Computer Sciencestudent at __ __ _ | \ / / \ | | __ | \_ | |/ \ | \ |__/ \__/ \__ \_/ Department of Computer Systems, University of Uppsala, Sweden email: mikhil@student.docs.uu.se phone: +46 18 46 28 30
