Boot Test. Press and hold both FUNCTION and RESET, then turn on pwer. Release buttons when the MX-8 responds "TEST MODE (Y/N)" ? 2. Prom Test. Press YES. MX-8 should respond with ROM Version 1.51 (or whatever version you have) (c) 19XX DMC GOOD. 3. DISPLAY TEST. Press FUNCTION. MX-8 should display each letter A-Z in a;; 32 character locations. 4. BUTTON TEST. Press each button in response to the prompt on the LCD display (cursor left, cursor right, NO, YES, function, reset) 5. ROUTER TEST. The display should have the following... Jump (connect) IN/OUT 1-6. Here, you should Connect In 1 -> Out 1. In 2 -> Out 2. In 3 -> Out 3. In 4 -> Out 4. In 5 -> Out 5. In 6 -> Out 6. Now press FUNCTION. The MX-8 should respond with (assuming the last test passed) ... Jmp IN 1,2/OUT 7,8 You should connect .. In 1 -> Out 7 In 2 -> Out 8 LEaving Cables 3 through 6 INTACT !! Press FUNCTION The MX-8 should go to this screen .. Destructive Test Are you sure ? BE CAREFUL, IF YOU PROCEED THIS TEST WILL WIPE OUT YOUR PATCHES. TO ABORT, TURN OFF POWER. 6. MEMORY TEST. Press yes. The MX-8 will say "RAM Good", (hopefully). 7. INITIALIZE MEMORY. Press FUNCTION. The MX-8 will say "Initialize RAM". Then it will display the burn in timer : Elapsed Time : 00hr 00min 05 sec This time indicates how long ago the Initailize Memory test has finished. You can turn off the MX-8 now, or let the unit burn in. You can abort the test at ANY time , by turning off the unit. This self test procedure came directly from Digital Music.
