okay, i want to compile a list of analog synths (keyboards and modules) that dont have knobs and sliders but do allow some reasonable amount of external control, via midi continuous controllers or sysex (or programmers.. but are the roland boxes the only things with dedicated programmers?). my take is this: there are things like the peavey pc-1600 which has 16 programmable sliders.. they can do midi CCs or even sysex. so any synth that allows midi CC assignment to params or that allows sysex editing *should* allow realtime twiddlage with such a box. yum! :) so i'm going to make a list, and hopefully people will fill in some of the blanks (specific questions i have) and add others. by midi CCs, i mean at least a couple of assignable ones. i also thought of including CV ins, like for VCF and VCA.. but they're usually only those two, so not that flexible. I've also included a couple with nice MIDI implementations. synth sysex MIDI CCs programmer ----- ----- -------- ---------- juno 1/2, mks50 y n pg-300 jx3p, mks30 ? n pg-200 jx8p ? n pg-800 jx-10, mks70 y (?) n pg-800 mks80 y n mpg-80 juno-106 y n sliders mks7 y n juno-106 ;) matrix-6/6r y y n polaris y y sliders kawai k3/k3m y n n ESQ-1/M Y Y (ctl-2 patchable) N Chroma w/ Syntek y y single slider on front MIDI interface Xpander y y 6 knobs on front from: mike perkowitz with help from: Peter Cassidy Mark Pulver mr808@teleport.com
