I guess it succeeds the PCM-15 LXP-1/5 units. It is a multi-effect box in that it also does chorus, flange, resonator as well as reverb. Again it has the full Midi implementation (for example you can modulate the resonater by almost any Midi controller or general message so....If you choose to modulate it by Midi note, you get a Vocoder kinda effect). The previous Lexicon "common man" Reverb is the Alex. It is similiar in appearance to the Reflex yet lacks the Midi implementation and I am unsure if it has the PCM-80 guts. I believe you can get a Reflex for $450-700 US. Try one! I do have a budget and am tired of the Alesis MIDIVERB3 that I have. I tried a Lexicon Alex (this was the first time I ever tried a lexicon). It was in a music store where the sales people mistake you as a ghost so I patched it into a mixer myself. The only material I could find at hand was a Sting CD so I played one of the sparser passages. Besides the thickness of the sound compared to an Alesis, the lexicon could process a recorded song and make it sound nice. I tried this many times with my old midiverb and midiverb3 but they always sounded terrible unless they processed only one instrument at a time. The older Alesis' sound too harsh. The nice news is the new Lexicon Reflex. I just read a review in a Sound on Sound Mag and they mention that it has the same processor as in the PCM-80! However the PCM-80 has more than one. Anyway the Reflex has a very complete Midi Implementation much like the LXP-15. In fact the Reflex is said to be compatable with that awkward looking ??? lexicon Midi controller. For these reasons and the price, the Reflex is my next purchase. I think that you could probably buy 6 Reflexs for the same price as 1 PCM-80. I think this would give you far more processing power. Can anyone give a review of the new Midiverb4 or Quadraveb2 ? Do these units break away from that high thin Alesis sound? Have any specs? Algorithm list? :) Tom, not to sound flip, but why don't you give Lexicon a call?? They can send you much more info on any of their products (complete with graphics) than I can possibly ever type. Basically it has six 4-Voice algorithms (but they'll work with other Oberheims too ;) and four 6-Voice algorithms. It can both act as a MIDI slave (including clock) or as a MIDI controller (including clock). I haven't used it to control a synth parameter, but it could :) The algorithms are: *an airy drum roll* 4-Voice: 1. Reverb Shell 2. Concert Hall 3. Plate 4. Chamber 5. Inverse 6. Infinite 6-Voice: 1. Glide>Hall 2. Chorus+Rvb 3. M-Band+Rvb 4. The resonant chord algorithms A. Res1>Plate b. Res2>Plate Each of these has about 50 or so parameters. I've talked about how parameters can source each other in a previous post, so I won't go into it again here. Lets just say things can get awfully complicated!! Basic Specs: Balanced TRS analog connectors. RCA type IEC-958 and SPDIF CP-340 Type II digital compatible with AES (neat trick, huh??), 18 bit conversion with 24 bit DSP, simultaneous digital and analog interfacing (eg. it will mix both inputs), PCMCIA card interface, 2 footswitch controlers, 10 Hz to 20kHz, + or - .5 dB, 100 dB dynamic range, 100 dB S/N, Analog/Analog: THD .008% max, -55 dB crosstalk, 90 dB @ 20kHz bandwith. These are better specs than most DAT or CD players :) Lexicon Inc. 100 Beaver Street Waltham, MA 02154 USA Voice: (617) 736-0300 Fax: (617) 891-0340 (No, I didn't have that memorized, I needed to check the manual :P ) PEACE OUT :) MARK ************************* M A C H I N E M E D I A ************************* * CD Mastering & Digital Editing * * Personal attention, the finest quality, & the most competitive rates. * * Phone: (203) 223-6744 Fax: (203) 223-6743 Free Overnight Shipping * **APHEX*BEHRINGER*DBX*DIGIDESIGN*DRAWMER*LEXICON*MICROPOLIS*SONY*UREI*WAVES***
