I have one.  It's a cool, little, battery powered analog drum machine which
is programmable in step-time.  It has a very unique sound which is unlike
any other TR-X0X devices.  Used by Visage and many others I'm sure.  The
bass drum sounds more like a trigger pulse than an actual bass drum.  The
snare and hi-hats have a distinctive cheap-analog sound to them but are
very usable.  I've seen several mods for syncing the DR-55 or the unit can
be synced via the footswitch jack while in write mode.  I would consider
$50 to $75 a reasonable price for a DR-55.
